After
all the rain we have had in the past few weeks, we were afraid there would be
no ride, but Sunday was a beautiful riding day. 13 riders left Lynne Herman’s
house at 10 AM sharp and headed south toward the Santa Rita’s. The ride was an
easy 2 and all 13 riders kept a good pace. The terrain varied from flat to a
couple of climbs. There was a variety of trail types -– single track, jeep
road, wash, and some bushwhacking. We looped around and picked up the Arizona
Trail north for the last portion. Bev Best Brown brought her granddaughter and
member Marty Skeldon did her first club ride in a long while. Since no one
signed up for the cookie exchange, we all met at the Vail Steak House for some
good conversation and good food.
EMPIRE RANCH RIDE & ROUND UP
November 5th
Following a night of showers in Tucson, 4 hearty souls and their steeds arrived at the Empire Ranch to the views of snow capped mountains in all directions. Though the air was crisp we marveled at the now clear skies and great smells that only a rain in the desert can bring. We headed out in a northwesterly direction over grassy hills and now dust free washes. Our leisurely ride of almost 3 hours covered a little over 8 miles. Following the ride several of us attended the Round Up and Open House at the Ranch Headquarters, "A Centennial Celebration of the Cowboy". Record crowds of over 2000 attended the event that featured more than 100 presenters showcasing Western skills, history, music and food. Fellow TSC member, Bob Peterson, was seen in the crowd sporting his cowboy attire as only he can do. Joanne
